NATURE WALK with the Summer Learning Challenge
Hello Families,
Welcome to Learning with Joy! Thanks for being here and I hope we can find joy in learning together! I am so glad you have joined the LwJ Summer Learning Challenge. My hope is that this challenge can bring joy, connection, and moments of learning to you and your littles.
As always please remember to use any ideas and tools in a way that works best for you and your family. Always guide and supervise any content your learner uses and the safety of the environment.
This week's challenge is to go on a nature walk. This could be in your yard, around the neighborhood, at a park, national forest, or any place for outdoor activity. The goal is to get outside and observe.
Below are guidelines with several different ideas for ages, skill level, time commitment etc. Feel free to pick the one that works best for you and your family.
LOCATION
Pick the location you would like to go to. This could be right outside your door or could be a full-day trip or camping weekend.
OBSERVE
Ask your learner to observe what they see. This can look different for different ages and kiddos such as:
Observe 5 things you see in nature today
Set a timer for 5-10 minutes of observation
Ask your learner to describe 1 object (a tree, a bug etc)
Ask about colors, texture, size
REFLECT
Have your learner draw or write about what they observed. You could take this with you on a clipboard or have them reflect when you return home
CLICK HERE for drawing/writing templates or use some paper or a whiteboard from home
SHARE
Have your learner share their work and what they observed
Share at the dinner table
Share with a friend
Video call a family member and share
I hope you enjoy nature and conversation with your learner this week! Happy learning and wishing you a joyful day!
