Visualize-Sorting

Hello Families,

Welcome to Learning with Joy! Thanks for being here and I hope we can find joy in learning together!

This month we are going to Visualize. We will be using visual tools to help learners see their thinking and learning. Stay tuned throughout the week for ways to support reading, writing, and more with visual aids and ways to make thinking and comprehension tangible. Be sure to get your FREE printables and let’s visualize & grow together.

Visualize- Sorting

Sorting is a great way to explore, learn, practice, and assess knowledge. Sorting is simply grouping different objects or words into the corresponding category. The great thing about sorting as a learning tool is that it can be used for many different subjects and age ranges. Toddlers can sort colors and shapes, while a 3rd grader can sort parts of speech while learning the difference between a verb and a noun.

You can guide and model sorting for new subjects or even use sorting to asses what your learner knows about certain categories. Sorting allows learners to assess similarities and differences and build connections and knowledge about the subject.

I have created a free printable that you can use to create sorting activities for whatever subject you would like. Simply write or draw in the categories and then the options for sorting. Please guide the use of this tool dependent on developmental age (ie- pre-cut for younger learners)

Make It Sensory

You can also create more tangible sorting experiences. I love to use yogurt cups to create sorting bins.

Check out this reel for more ways that I upcycle for learning!

Have fun & let me know over on insta @learningwjoy what you are sorting this week!
