Visualize- Writing

Hello Families,

Welcome to Learning with Joy! Thanks for being here and I hope we can find joy in learning together!

This month we are going to Visualize. We will be using visual tools to help learners see their thinking and learning. Stay tuned throughout the week for ways to support reading, writing, and more with visual aids and ways to make thinking and comprehension tangible. Be sure to get your FREE printables and let’s visualize & grow together.

Visualize- Writing

Graphic organizers are a great way to increase learning potential and allow your learner to show and share their thinking. In my post about Vivializing Reading Comprehension, I talked about the importance of building comprehension skills and ways to use graphic organizers to show understanding of stories and discuss the important parts. A great thing about these graphic organizers is that they can also be used for planning writing. Planning is an important step in the writing process (brainstorm, plan, draft, revise, edit, publish). These graphic organizers give learners a space to create and show ideas for their own stories. After planning you can give them some paper to write out their full stories and ideas. If your little one is still learning to write, you can have them draw pictures and tell you the story with words. You can also write out what they say if you would like to keep a memento of their storytelling or a fun gift to pass along to grandparents or family.

CLICK HERE for the FREE graphic organizers. There are 2 options to use. One is geared toward younger learners or pre-reading/writing and allows them free space to draw. The other is more detailed and has space for writing and drawing. You can discuss and guide or give to more independent learners to complete on their own.

Have your learner present or share their work with another family member or friend to add an element of ownership. It’s great to hear their creative stories and it gives them an opportunity to share and be proud of their work.

Have Fun and enjoy seeing your learners thinking on the page!
